It’s easy to get caught up in the stress of our day-to-day routine. Self-care can often be left on the back burner in favor of responsibilities which we consider to take precedence. However, research shows how giving yourself a break from the bustle of life can be beneficial by improving your health and even increasing your productivity in the long run. Self-care routines are sometimes packaged and sold to us with a price tag, which stresses us out even more than we already were. So, the next time you’re looking for an easy way to decompress without having to dip into your savings, try one of these complexion and mood boosting homemade face masks.
- Me-Thyme Mask
Grind together ¼ cup oatmeal and a tablespoon each of dried lavender, rosemary and thyme leaves. Once it has become a powder, mix in five drops of tea tree oil and fresh aloe vera. Add water until spreadable, then apply to your face and neck for 15 minutes. Since thyme and rosemary are known for combating insomnia and symptoms of depression and lavender can be used as an anti-anxiety remedy, your worries will dissipate as soon as this mask goes on.
- Simply Cinnamon
Take two parts honey with one-part cinnamon powder and mix into a thick blend. Let the neuron-stimulating spice soak into your skin for the next 20 minutes, and welcome effects such as improved concentration, memory and attention. More facemask recipes using cinnamon can be found here.
- Terrific in Turmeric
This turmeric-heavy mask not only rejuvenates and brightens tired skin, but the spice can also be traced to stimulating the release of serotonin. Combine ½ teaspoon of ground turmeric with 1/3 cup oatmeal, lemon juice, ¼ of an avocado and two tablespoons honey. Stir in five drops of turmeric essential oil, adjusting amount of liquid and oatmeal for desired consistently. Spread on face for 15 to 30 minutes.
Self-care means something different to everyone, and it’s important to figure out what works for you. Though it may seem like a daunting task at first, treating yourself to one of these quick and mood-boosting masks is a great place to start. You deserve it, and your body will thank you!
