The Power of your 20s

By Michelle Tapia

As a graduating senior, it’s no surprise I’ve been especially pensive about my life and my future. It’s a moment that shouldn’t come as a surprise to me considering the past 17 years of schooling have been building up to this. Graduating school means making the final step into becoming an Adult™ and all of a sudden we have to make hard and fast decisions about our lives. Now that we have supposedly figured out what we want to do, we are supposed to find a stable 9-5 job, figure out where we’re going to live, pay back our student debts and take over our phone payments or something.

My point is that this is a scary time for many of us. We look around and see our peers making Facebook posts about accepting positions at big and well-known companies, and we feel like everyone has everything figured out. It’s easy to feel small and helpless as we try to navigate this big world on our own but if I could impart unsolicited advice on everyone, I would say to cherish this time in your life and realize that you hold a power at this phase of your life that you may never have again.

Here are some things to go out and do to take advantage of your newfound power:

Move to a city you’ve always wanted to live in.

Ok friends, real talk: when’s the last time the workday left you feeling stressed or anxious? ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you answered "today," you're not alone. 😐 ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The (somewhat sad) truth is, work stress is pretty common. It can creep in for a few minutes or a few days or even weeks. Even if you LOVE your work, stress can be hard to avoid. ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And while you may never be able to eliminate stress entirely, you can change how you manage your thoughts and reactions when you feel overwhelmed. This week on the blog, I'm sharing my go-to method for eliminating workday stress anytime, anywhere. 💕 ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Read at the link in my bio, and bookmark this one for the next time you need a personal reset and boost of "I've GOT this!" 💪🏼

Learn how to cook.

Change your look.

What I’m essentially and eloquently trying to say is, just do it. And while I hope Nike doesn’t sue me, it’s a statement we should all live by, and I know I will keep it close to me as I embark on new adventures in the coming months. While I may not know much for sure, I know we’re living a special time in our lives. I know that even if everything fails and nothing works out, the world will not end; I will not spontaneously combust into flames. I will be okay; I will be better for it, and I will survive (corny Gloria Gaynor reference aside.)
