Get Ready With Me: Making The Switch to Cruelty-Free Makeup

By: Jacqueline Saguin

Two years ago I cut out meat from my diet. All it took was a weeklong Indian wedding that forced me to go cold turkey. The more I thought about it, the more I realized how animal suffering comes at the cost of humans’ pleasure, even though humans can survive without eating meat.

Fast forward to today, and I realize it’s hypocritical of me not to consider this in other aspects of my life. Makeup testing on animals is one of the biggest issues in animal cruelty. Companies seem to become more animal conscious, with new makeup brands added to the cruelty-free list.

So, I rethought my makeup staples to include cruelty-free products. Not only does it leave me glowing but it also leaves me feeling guilt-free.

Foundation: Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer

Put a dime-sized drop of foundation on your hand, and use a damp beauty blender sponge to apply. It creates a dewy, natural look. Since its a tinted moisturizer rather than a foundation, it’s perfect for an everyday walk around campus, especially with its SPF.

Blush: Glossier Cloud Paint in Storm

It’s my holy grail makeup item. A few dabs of this liquid blush creates a healthy flush. A little goes a long way.

Bronzer: Milk Makeup Bronzer Stick

Swirl a brush over this bronzer stick, and swipe it in three’s around the sides of your face. You’ll look like you just spent the day lounging in the sun.

Highlighter: ColourPop Super Shock Highlighter in the shade “Wisp”

Swipe this creamy formula onto the high points of your cheekbone, and you’ll glow like a goddess. Be careful not to blind anyone with your highlight.
