Films can stir up all sorts of emotions. Horror movies evoke fear, while documentaries pique your curiosity. Here are five movies that will make you happy.
- School of Rock
Jack Black teaches fifth graders how to play rock music to win a battle of the bands competition. How can this plot line alone not make you smile? This movie also gives you a small history lesson in rock ‘n’ roll. Black was even nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance.
- The Peanut Butter Falcon
This movie features an amazing performance by Zack Gottsagen, an actor with down syndrome in his first starring role in a film. The film follows Gottsagen and Shia LaBeouf’s characters on a thrilling adventure! The Peanut Butter Falcon was the highest grossing independent film of 2019.
- Step Brothers
Arguably one of the funniest movies ever made, Step Brothers proves just how amazing of a combination Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly are (forget that Holmes & Watson ever happened). Step Brothers shows the blossoming of a beautiful friendship between two middle-aged stepbrothers, and I die laughing every time I watch it.
- May It Last: A Portrait of the Avett Brothers
This documentary follows the Avett Brothers as they record their “True Sadness” album. Unlike many documentaries about bands recording an album where members of the band are constantly in turmoil, this band seems to do the opposite. They are kind and loving to each other, rather than being hurtful. It is refreshing to watch.
- Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
I think deep down, we all feel like Ferris Bueller (Matthew Broderick) when we take a day off because we feel “sick.” This movie follows Ferris and his buddies as they cut class while their suspicious principal tries to catch them in the act.
