Wake up. Brush your teeth. Get dressed. Go to work. Do work. Go home. Have dinner. Watch TV. Go to bed.
When was the last time you strayed from your routine? I get it: rent has to be paid, so work has to be done. There are parts of life we can’t get out of doing, and unfortunately, those parts tend to tire us out.
Falling into a routine is as easy as breathing. You don’t even have to think about it. Almost every day, you take a left at the same crooked tree to go to work, and you watch the same show on Netflix at the end of the day, and you probably aren’t mentally present for any of it because you know how the story goes. The monotony gets boring.
It’s time for a breath of fresh air.
Switch it up a little. A change of scenery can do wonders for a person’s focus and enthusiasm for life. Now, I’m not saying you need to book a flight out of the country immediately (although I always encourage just-because trips if you can budget it in), but you do need to do something to get you out of your rut.
A change of scenery doesn’t have to be expensive and extravagant. Go to a new restaurant with your friends. Find free or cheap events happening around town. Take a walk instead of driving. Go to the pool. Even changing your routes and going through parts of town you’ve never seen before can be entertaining. The point is that you need to see and do things that you don’t do every day.
Changes provide more stimulation than routines where you’re just going through the motions. When you’re not doing the same thing every day, you have more focus, not only with the new aspects but with the same old schedule that’s now broken up and not as monotonous. Having different experiences can show you what you actually care about. Once you’ve got that figured out and you make time for what you enjoy, life gets a bit more fun.
Variety is the spice of life after all.
